It feels like I'ma be in college forever! lol. I'm not complaining though :-D I'm originally from Cincinnati, OH and am majoring in industrial engineering. I love to do anything where I can go out and have fun, especially dancing. I'm still in kid mode lol, so I still like goin' outside and playin' whatever just for the heck of it (unless it's baseball/softball, then I'm out). Hmm...interesting facts about me? I'm the middle child, I don't drink pop and I love twizzlers,. Yeah I think that pretty much sums it up lol. Anything else you wanna know, just IM me or send me a message on Xbox Live.

No More Halo 3 for A While

I'm so done with Halo 3.  Yesterday I thought I was done and today I gave it another shot.  After today, ridiculous stuff just kept happening to me and I just can't take it anymore.  It was so bad that I had to go onto the Bungie website and go on a rant while I was on the board.  My main beefs with Halo 3 are 1) The grenades aren't strong enough 2) The mauler/beat down combo should not be an automatic kill 3) I don't like how strong the melee is, but if it's going to be that strong then it should at least be consistent.  If two players have the same amount of health left (almost no shields) and one melees the other one first, he should die.  Instead, what constantly happens is the person who melee'd first gets melee'd back and then dies.   Here's what I wrote:

I agree 100%! The strength of the grenades need to be improved. Not too much, but just enough so that they're equal to the strength of those in Halo 2. Bungie did a great job correcting some things (such as the shotgun), but I don't understand why they tampered with the strength of the grenades when they were perfect the way they were. My roommate showed me a video where you could clearly see someone taking a step down, causing their foot to land on a grenade. The grenade blew up, but it was like the person wasn't even phased! They got shot with two bursts of the battle rifle afterward and still somehow lived? After seeing that, there is no way that someone can tell me there's nothing wrong with the grenades. In addition, is it just me or is the sound of the grenade kinda whack? It sounds like it's buried deep in the ground and all you hear is the end of the explosion. The change of the grenades and really ruined the Halo 3 experience for me and makes me almost not want to play anymore. The grenades even throw differently, as if they're heavier than they were in previous versions. Other than that, I have no problem with the game (other than the mauler, but that's a different story).

I really hope Bungie comes out with an update for this as they came out with a melee up date for Halo 2.

And in another post, I commented on something someone else had written.  It was really nice to see that I'm not the only one who feels this way about the game and it's flaws:

Well I believe it was in the forge vidoc that we were told; "Within weeks fans will take our maps and say 'Bungie this is broken' and then fix them", well I believe this is one of the first changes that should be taken on board; the Mauler.

The mauler is a wonderful balance for the sword, hammer and shotgun, this is a fine concept except it 'ain't so. Instead the mauler (coupled with a melee, as any person playing for at least one day will learn) has simply become ANOTHER shotgun/sword/hammer.

It is almost as fast as the shotgun (if not as fast), quicker than the hammer and has replaced the sword. That is while single wielded.

Dual wielded it offers varied gameplay and combinations, it's a smart weapon to dual wield. But no one dual wields... Why? There's no reason to when you can shoot-melee and kill anything within 10 feet in half a second. The dual wielding is like strapping a plasma pistol to a shotgun; pointless.

Secondly; the Mauler seems benign at first; a watered down shotgun or close range dual weapon, it's not seen as a power weapon like the shotgun, sword and hammer. Thus problem two emerges; abundance. The mauler exists in such abundance on most levels that it simply swamps competition.
- Narrows has four maulers plus a shotgun (that's 5 weapons which all act the same, might as well be 5 shotguns).
- Guardian has three maulers plus a shotgun plus a hammer (that's 5 weapons which produce similar results; instant death at close range, might as well be 5 shotguns)

These two maps are highly weighted in matchmaking in team and FFA respectively, though the problem does not end with them, other maps are mauler-ridden. Highground, The Pit and Last Resort stand out to me from memory.

The problem is, therefore, we are given upwards of 4 instant kill - close range weapons and one sniper or a handful of BR's to counter them. Any smart player will pick up a mauler and simply rack up countless kills with it, never feeling the need to change tactics nor weapons because, as soon as they die, they have probably spawned within 10 feet of another mauler due to their fast respawns and liberal distribution.

The Mauler has basically added 2 - 4 shotguns to each map. A game breaking problem for me and anyone who is not as interested in sacrificing the fun of their game to win. No longer can I have my sniper rifle and depend on skill to stay alive or a bubble shield to save my life because within 10 seconds 7 other players will descend with maulers or shotguns.

I am not saying Halo is a long range game and has thus been destroyed, no. Halo is about variation, long range with a sniper, mid range with a BR and close range with a shotgun, for example. Now, however, there has been a dramatic shift to simply close range. Too many maulers on the maps are the single problem.

My solution; replace them with anything else. Plasma rifles, BR's, SMG's, things which are not insta-kill at close range. Right now it feels like every game I play is shotguns on Lockout because I am spending my time fleeing from some person who clawed his way to level 45 by hiding by the overshield with his mauler.

It is now down to something to be done, this is not an exaggeration, when you see data saying someone finished with over 14 melee kills on a map such as Guardian, know that they are the child of the mauler.

The fix would be simple, hell we can do it ourselves in Forge now, but this is a fix that needs to happen in MM too. It's not that I can't use it - it's just I do not want to, I find it boring and repetitive to mauler my enemies.

The fix would simply be reducing the power of it, perhaps making the delay between shooting and meleeing longer, reducing the amount on each map, the fix would take but minutes and the impact would completely balance out the mauler-orgy which corridor combat has become.

I couldnt agree with you more! I am so frustrated by the noobfest halo 3 has become that i have pretty much stopped playing it all together. The mauler combined with the new melee sytem (Which is a whole other can of worms i wont open) has made halo 3 simply NOT FUN, and rather than the "30 seconds of fun" we all know and love from the original Halo, it has now become the "30 seconds of yelling and screaming at my TV beacuse I meleed him first but I still died" and this coming from somebody who refused to pick up the PP+BR combo in halo 2 because it was really cheap, the mauler is no better and mauler carriers are exploiting what i consider a glitch (mauler/beatdown) in the system. Seriously, i have blasted mauler carriers square in the chest at point blank range with a shotgun only to be mauled and beatdown. Its sad when you have to pick up the mauler to avoid bcoming the victim in lonewolves or team doubles. I have found myself forced to camp with the mauler in a few games that i have played which is damn near against my religion and is NOT the way halo was meant to be played! Well thats my RANT, and that being said ill move on to solutions to the problem, i love halo and dont want to give up on it but these issues must be addressed!

The fix would simply be reducing the power of it, perhaps making the delay between shooting and meleeing longer, reducing the amount on each map, the fix would take but minutes and the impact would completely balance out the mauler-orgy which corridor combat has become.

This would be a good start and i think delaying the time between being able to shoot and melee will help but i think they should concentrate on making it a dual weild weopon taking the melee out of the equation!

I couldn't agree with you more!! They need to reduce the time inbetween shots for the mauler, reduce the strength of the melee when someone has the mauler, or do SOMETHING because it is ridiculous that someone can shoot, melee, and kill me in .2 seconds before I even have time to defend myself and react to it. It just takes the fun out of the game and is has caused me to want to stop playing Halo 3 altogether.
